Courtney Griffin, a Program Manager specializing in Vendor Management at our Research Triangle Park (RTP) site, has cultivated a fulfilling 12-year career at Biogen. A North Carolina native, Courtney attended East Carolina University before settling in Raleigh, where she lives with her husband, sons, and two dogs. Outside of work, Courtney thrives on connection and creativity, enjoying gardening, entertaining, exploring new restaurants, and relaxing with her family. “I’m a people person,” she shares. “I truly enjoy talking with others, building relationships, and challenging myself to learn new things.”
Courtney’s Biogen journey began in 2012, when she discovered a job posting for an Inbound Support Coordinator role in Patient Services. “I thought, what a wonderful opportunity to join a company that does so much to help patients,” she recalls. Drawn to the company’s commitment to patient care and its abundant development opportunities, Courtney quickly embraced Biogen’s culture of growth. Over the years, she has held several roles within Patient Services, each building on her skills and preparing her for her current responsibilities. “The opportunities for development and growth are all over the company,” she says.
Her career trajectory has been shaped by a variety of experiences and resources, including opportunities through TORCH (Biogen’s mentorship program), Orbits (an initiative allowing employees to learn new roles through temporary assignments while still completing their regular workload), and leadership development programs. “These opportunities gave me the tools, knowledge, and resources to develop and expand my professional skillset,” Courtney explains. Today, she manages multiple vendors that support Patient Services and our commercial organization. Biogen's Patient Services team offers treatment education and ongoing support to patients prescribed Biogen therapies. These services ensure patients receive the necessary help and resources throughout their treatment journey. For Courtney’s role, she manages the planning, implementation and day-to-day operations of the technological tools and resources provided by Biogen’s vendors to ensure patient services run smoothly and effectively. Her role also involves program management, contract oversight, and invoice reconciliation.
Courtney credits her success in this fast-paced environment to her ability to build strong relationships, prioritize tasks, and adapt to evolving challenges. “Time management and learning to prioritize work has been imperative,” she notes. “The day-to-day asks, projects, and ever-changing industry can sometimes make it difficult to understand top priorities. Learning to take a step back and evaluate the business needs has been key in my role with vendor management.”
What drives Courtney most is knowing that her work directly supports patients in their therapy journeys. “Even though I don’t communicate directly with patients, healthcare professionals, or caregivers, my work ‘behind the scenes’ is still supporting them,” she says. Additionally, as a member of Biogen’s internal Patient Services Culture Advisory Board, Courtney has been instrumental in fostering a positive team environment. “Culture is something we take pride in, and with the support of our leadership team, we’ve taken suggestions and brought them to life—things like peer recognition, hosting a customer service week, and leadership Q&A sessions,” she shares with pride.
Reflecting on her career, Courtney emphasizes the importance of confidence and self-belief. “Believing in yourself is key. I started a new career in a new industry in 2012 and it was nerve-racking. But as my journey continued, I kept reminding myself of that mantra,” she says.
“Having the confidence to try new things, explore different roles, and take risks is exactly how I made it to where I am today.”
Courtney’s professional advancements within the Patient Services team exemplifies Biogen’s commitment to fostering talent, growth, and creating a supportive culture. With her passion, drive, and dedication, she continues to make a significant impact—both on the people she works with, and the patients Biogen serves.
